Building automation interoperability – A review

چکیده
The development of building automation systems (BAS) is strategic to answer comfort, security and energy saving requirements. In large buildings energy can represent a significant percentage of the energy year’s bill. An integrated BAS is expected to contribute for a significant decreased of costs, development, assembling and management cost, and it might contribute to a reduction of CO2. The goal is to develop an integration strategy aiming to establish an integrated control of the building sub-systems (e.g. heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), lightning, security, etc.). To accomplish this integrated control there is a need to establish a communication strategy among the involved sub-systems. One of the challenges to develop such a BAS is on how to establish interoperability between sub-systems since they are from multi-manufactures and developed on heterogeneous technologies. A solution is to build a system that implements one of the emergent open protocols such as BACnet, LonWorks or KNX. They are open, interoperable, multi-vendor and provide an end-to-end solution. The paper presents a comparison between the characteristics of the mentioned protocols and the best one to implement an open building automation system is chosen. Smart home interoperability: the DomoEsi project approach
The home automation market is characterized by the great number of systems available to the end user. The recent bubble in the building industry made the situation even worse due to the birth of new proprietary systems. The success of the digital home concept depends on the ease of integration between home automation systems and other consumer electronic equipment pre-existing in the home. In t...
متن کاملGeneric Control Architecture for Heterogeneous Building Automation Applications
In home automation systems, and even more in building automation systems, the interoperability of installations from different vendors constitutes a significant problem for planners, construction companies and users. A generic communication infrastructure on All-IP basis, which can be used by several building automation applications like lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), ...
متن کاملIntegrating KNX and OPC UA Information Model
Interoperability in all the levels of a communication architecture for automation applications cannot be easily satisfied because control devices are generally based on different technologies and communication protocols. This paper deals with the interoperability of a well-known communication standard for home and building automation, i.e. the KNX. Current literature presents several papers dem...
متن کاملOntology-Based Device Descriptions and Device Repository for Building Automation Devices
Device descriptions play an important role in the design and commissioning of modern building automation systems and help reducing the design time and costs. However, all established device descriptions are specialized for certain purposes and suffer from several weaknesses. This hinders a further design automation, which is strongly needed for the more and more complex building automation syst...

Semantic nets are a universal information structure that can be used for representing nearly any kind of information. This is why the semantic web has also chosen to use them as the universal format for representing data, usually using RDF (Resource Description Framework) as the syntax. Semantic nets are also suitable for sharing information between different domains, organizations, manufacture...
